Tile and Stone

Ceramic tile is perhaps one of the oldest surfacing materials in the world. Some tile found dates back 18,000 years that was used on the banks of the Nile River. The application of tile as a decorative expression is believed to originate from the Persians of Babylon who used brilliant colors, glazes and embossing of animal pictures on tile to decorate doors. Over the centuries tiles appear again and again throughout history incorporating vibrant colors, ornate geometric patterns and distinct pictorial designs to beautify floors, walls and ceilings.

While today’s tiles represent a broader range of materials from synthetic to natural such as, acrylic, stainless steel, recycled wine bottles, rubberized concrete, stone, porcelain, glass, even leather – its purpose, the desire to beautify, remains well rooted in the past.
